Chrome Extensions
I finally played around with some Chrome extensions today. I’m definitely glad Chrome added them and it really took me back to the good ol’ days when I would tweak the hell out of Firefox (and IE only dreamed of supporting extensions), but just like Firefox’s extension library I’ve discovered there are some very good ones and some very bad ones. The ones I currently have loaded so far are:
- AdBlock
- FlashBlock
- Google Mail Checker
- RSS Subscription Extension (by Google)
- Chrome Bird
- Shareaholic
- Forecastfox
- WOT (Web of Trust)
I haven’t exactly seen the usefulness of the last one yet, but I liked the name. So far, all of these seem both stable and useful.
I also tried the official bit.ly extension as well as ‘URL Shortener’. I was not impressed with either of these. The bit.ly one looks like it has a lot of potential… when it works (almost too much info), and the URL Shortener seemed OK, but a bit overly-simplified. I think for the time being I’m going to play with shareaholic — it looks like it might be just right, great interface, speedy and practical. I really like that it supports tumblr, too. :)
EDIT: I’ll note, too, that I’ve tried ChromeMilk (to connect to Remember the Milk) and it worked OK briefly and that was the end. I’ve tried restarting Chrome to no avail. I find spending time on something that is supposed to help me organize myself and possibly provide me with more time might not be the best decision. Uninstall complete!
Also, it should be noted, that I removed WOT. I feel it was slowing down my Google search results too much, although that might have just been my crappy computer that has probably already been infected by sites WOT wouldn’t have approved of.
